This book, like its predecessors, offers a particular sort of satisfaction to those familiar with the history, the places, and the people.

Sarah Dunant is an excellent author; her research and writing style make In the Name of the Family a book /5. Parents need to know that The Familiars is the first book in a magic-filled fantasy series of the same name that shows three animals -- a cat, a bird, and a frog -- as the heroes.
